Speech read by the student
council during the award
ceremony
Written by Keegan Scriber
All members of the CCS community and
alumni,
The Cambridge
Central School Student Body would
like to take a moment of your time
to remember and honor a great man
known to all of us as the “Milkman”,
Dick Record.
He was a
fine upstanding citizen who lived
here in Cambridge for many years
after graduating from CCS. Subdued
is not a word that we would think of
when remembering this energetic,
carefree, smiling man who loved his
town and school. Many of us think
of Dick Record as a quiet hero. He
was always doing nice things for
people. Very often you would see
him stop what he was doing to help
someone out and then go on with his
day, whether it was planning the
alumni events with his wife or
preparing holiday baskets for the
community and never wanting any
recognition.
Dick has
contributed so much to us, to
include being our bus driver,
leading our Boy Scouts, presiding as
President of the C.S.E.A., being in
the stands as a true supporter of
athletics, for many of us he was our
“milkman” and just being there as an
all around great guy and friend.
A quote from a
dear friend of Dick Record said he
was “A quiet man who touched the
lives of this community”. Obviously
this is true because this past July
the community was overflowing with
people here in Cambridge to pay
their respects to the “Milkman”.
It is
fitting that we honor Dick Record on
this day before a football game.
Dick was a member of one of our
championship football teams. We
know that Dick was a humble man who
would never approve of this, but it
is with great pride and honor that
we present the “Dick Record Plaque”
to his wife Linda and family.
Thank you and may
Dick be forever in our memories!
The plaque reads:
A quiet man who TOUCHED
the lives of the community
