Sunday,
October 24,
2010 as the
result of
injuries
sustained in
an
automobile
accident
near his
home on
Camden
Valley Road.
He was the
husband of
Julie
Stroffoleno
Thomas.
Born on
Saturday,
July 2, 1983
in
Bennington
he was the
son of
Michael J.
Thomas, Sr.
and Colleen
McAvoy of
Camden
Valley and
Michele and
Tony Van
Ness of
Arlington.
Mike grew up
in Camden
Valley and
received his
education at
Cambridge
Central
School. He
was a
graduate of
the class of
2002 and
proud to be
a Cambridge
Indian.
Mike had his
first cow
when he was
ten years
old. He was
a member of
the Shushan
4-H Club and
loved
showing his
cows at the
Washington
County Fair,
the
Schaghticoke
Fair and the
Tunbridge
Fair. He
showed every
year
including
2010.
He was very
athletic
starting
with Pee Wee
Wrestling
and Pee Wee
Football. He
was a member
of the
wrestling
team and the
football
team at CCS
and played
semi-pro
football for
the Southern
Vermont
Storms.
He loved to
hunt, fish,
ride his 4-
wheeler and
spend time
at the
river.
He and Julie
were married
on August 9,
2008. They
were the
proud
“parents” of
three
beloved
pets, Sarge,
Midas and
Mr. Moe.
Mike was
employed by
Jay Burdick
in
Shaftsbury
doing
construction
work.
Along with
his wife and
parents, he
is survived
by a sister,
Nicole
Thomas of
Brunswick;
three
step-siblings,
Nick Van
Ness of
Bennington,
Crystal Van
Ness of
Shaftsbury
and Kim
Hawley of
Arlington;
in-laws,
June and
Anthony
Onorato and
George
Stroffoleno
Sr., of
Arlington;
brother-in-law
and best
friend,
George
Stroffoleno,
Jr. of
Arlington;
paternal
grandparents,
Robert and
Betty Thomas
of Camden
Valley and
maternal
grandparents
Mike and
Shirley
McGuire of
North
Bennington
and Harriet
and John
Gallaway of
Lima, Ohio.
Mike is also
survived by
numerous
nieces and
nephews that
he had a
great time
with. He was
a hero to
his special
nephew
Georgie.
