Vincent P. Sica

 

Vincent Patrick Sica, 73, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, at his home on Center Cambridge Road. He was the beloved husband of Constance Bowles Sica.

Born Monday, Nov. 28, 1932, in the Bronx, he was the son of the late Joseph Sica and Josephine Cristaldi Gervasi of Cambridge.

After spending summers on the Cristaldi farm, the family moved to Cambridge in 1948 and Vinnie graduated from Cambridge Central School.

He joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He and Connie were married on July 5, 1958.

He worked as a mechanic at Columbia Corporation (formerly Columbia Boxboard), in Wallomsac, retiring in 1995.  He was the recording secretary and financial treasurer of United Paper Workers of America Union No. 1142 for 35 years.

Vinnie was a devoted communicant of Saint Patrick's Church where he was a member of the Parish Council and a greeter for the Saturday, 4 p.m. Mass.

He was a member, the present Chaplin and Legionnaire of Year of 1999 for Capt. Maxson Post No. 634 of the American Legion; a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 10917 ; and a member of the Democratic committee of the Town of Cambridge. He was the present election inspector for the town of Cambridge and had served a four-year term as councilman.

Vinnie was quite a handyman and was always busy. He enjoyed working on small engines and loved tinkering on his collection of old tractors. He liked gardening and loved spending time with his grandsons.

Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by two children and their spouses, Randi V. Sica and Jackie Fedler of Cambridge and Sherri and Nathan Wright of Greenwich; two grandsons, Shaun M. and Ryan S. Sica; five siblings and their spouses, Louis and Lida Sica of Cambridge, Philip and Helene Sica of Cambridge, Sarah Bosland of Hamburg, N.J., Aurelio and Nancy Sica of Miami, Fla., Barbara and Roger Catlin of Tucson, Ariz.; two aunts, Frances Valerio and Constance Cristaldi, both of Cambridge; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Wednesday, March 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge. There will be a Knights of Columbus service at 6:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Liam Condon at St. Patrick's Church, 17 South Park St., Cambridge on Thursday, March 23, at 10 a.m.  Burial, with military honors provide by Capt. Maxson Post No. 634, will follow at Woodlands Cemetery, Cambridge. All are invited to a reception at the American Legion hall.

The family requests memorial donations be made to either St. Patrick's Church; Cambridge Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 52, Cambridge, NY 12816 or the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Albany, NY 12211.

Vincent will be remembered as a kind and loving man, devoted to his family, church and country. He will be greatly missed.
