William N. Reynolds Jr

William N. Reynolds Jr., 84, died peacefully at home after a long illness. He was the husband of Grace Hill Reynolds.

Forever known as one of the "Reynolds boys," Bill was born at Mary McClellan Hospital on Feb. 26, 1925, the first son of William N. and Bertha Hanna Reynolds.

He was the valedictorian of Cambridge Union School's Class of 1942.

Bill joined the United States Army in 1947, and was discharged on Jan. 31, 1950.

He and Grace were married May 2, 1953.

Along with working the family farm with his brother John, Bill worked for the New York State Department of Transportation, retiring in 1988.

Of course, he never retired from the farm. He worked every day that his health would permit.

He was a member of the Christian Science Society formerly in Greenwich.

Bill liked antiques and going to antique shows.

Although he wasn't much for joining groups and socializing, he was a warm, friendly gentle man who will be greatly missed.

He was predeceased by his brother, John and all his cousins.

Along with his wife of 56 years, he is survived by a son, William N. Reynolds III of Cambridge; and two daughters, Barbara Vollmer of Clifton Park and Julia Reynolds of Greenwich.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge.

A memorial celebration of Bill's life will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. His ashes will be buried in the spring at Woodlands Cemetery.
