Edwin Thomas McMorris

 
 
 Edwin Thomas McMorris, 91, of Troy, passed away Monday morning, Nov. 8, 2010, at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, N.Y.

He was born on Feb. 13, 1919, in East Greenwich, N.Y. He was the son of the late William J. McMorris Sr. and Nellie Millington.

He was predeceased by all his siblings Edith, Margaret, William J. Jr., Arthur, Harold and Ralph, and also his first wife, Betty.

After graduating from Cambridge Union School in 1938, he received a degree from Cobleskill Technical College where he met Elizabeth "Betty" Childs and they were married the next year. After Betty passed away, he married Anna Elizabeth Conway Royal. After several years of living on the Batten Kill River near Salem, he and Anna moved to Troy, N.Y.

He was employed as an Assistant Manager by Grange League Federation (G.L.F.) for a number of years while living in Cuba, N.Y.; Arcade, N.Y.; East Aurora, N.Y., and Wellsboro, Pa., before moving back to Cambridge with his family in 1956. He then worked as a carpenter, owned and operated Mac's Lunch on West Main Street in Cambridge, and later was employed by McWhorter's Market in Cambridge until his retirement.

Edwin was a charter member of the Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad, a member of the Cambridge Valley Lodge No. 481 Masons, an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed the hobby of coin collecting.

He is survived by his second wife, Anna; his son, Thomas McMorris, wife, Jean, of Salem; his daughters, Linda Record of Cambridge and Ann Cassidy and husband, Daniel, of Bayville, N.J.; he is also survived by grandchildren: Deborah Record and daughter, Danielle of Cambridge; Richard (Brooke) Record of Wilton; Donald (Julie) Record of South Glens Falls; and Christopher Record of Latham. Other grandchildren include Erin (Chris) Golden and daughter, Emelia, of North Carolina; Major Alec McMorris, stationed at Heidelberg, Germany; Erika (James) Hafner and children, Jenna and James of New Jersey and Christopher (Brooke) Ellis of Georgia. Other survivors are stepdaughter, Kathleen (William) Ericsen and their daughter, Heather, of Melrose, N.Y.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the Cambridge First Baptist Church, at 29 W. Main St., Cambridge, N.Y.

Interment will be at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge.
