Barbara MacDougall Welsh

Greenwich, NY-Barbara A. Welsh, 75, of Greenwich, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, July 2, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. Born September 18, 1934 in Schenectady, NY, she was the daughter of the late Leroy "George" and Marie (Burckhart) MacDougall.

Barbara graduated from Cambridge High School and also the Mildred Elley Business School. She had worked at the Northway Exchange in Clifton Park in various capacities retiring after over 30 years of faithful service to the company.

Barbara was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Greenwich. She was raised in Cambridge and lived in Clifton Park from 1962 until 2000 when she and her husband moved to Greenwich to live closer to her only child and best friend Nancy and her family. She always remembered the wonderful neighbors in Clifton Park and Greenwich. Barb enjoyed dancing, loved flowers especially the baskets on her porch and spending time with her family, especially watching her grandsons snowboard at Willard Mountain. She would often say that her son-in-law Brian was like a son to her and she did not know what she would do without him. Barbara was a fan of the New York Yankees, the Boston Celtics and the New York Giants, she loved watching games with her other best friend, her husband "Coke". Other special interests Barb enjoyed were game shows and watching old movies.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 52 years, Leonard J. "Coke" Welsh whom she married February 15, 1958; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Brian J. McLucas of Greenwich; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Dawn MacDougall of Hedges Lake. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, William LaFreniere of Surprise, AZ, Cody McLucas, John McLucas and Brian R. McLucas, all of Greenwich. She is also survived by 2 great grandchildren, Kaleb LaFreniere and Kamryn LaFreniere, both of Surprise, AZ and many nieces and nephews and a wonderful sister-in-law, Mary Alice Connors Saunders of Salem and her cat Suzie whom she loved very much.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was also pre-deceased by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Macksey.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 5, 2010 at St. Joseph's Church, corner Hill and Bleecker Sts., in Greenwich with Rev. Martin Fisher and Rev. Liam Condon co-officiating. Interment  followed the mass at Holy Cross Cemetery in Salem. Following the services, Barbara's family invitesd everyone to join them for a time of fellowship at the Greenwich V.F.W. on Abeel Avenue.
At the family's request, there will be no calling hours.
The family suggested  that memorial contributions in memory of Barbara be made to the Easton-Greenwich Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 84, Greenwich, NY 12834. The family extends their heartfelt thank you to the members of the rescue squad for all of their help during Barbara's illness.
