Robert M. King
Robert M. King, 72, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Rutland Regional Medical Center following a short illness.

Robert was born Feb. 11, 1936, in Albany, N.Y., the son of Charles G. and Betty (Moston) King. Bob graduated from Cambridge High School in 1953 and Simmons School of Mortuary Science in 1956. True to his alma mater, Bob enjoyed attending Cambridge Indian football games and even traveled to the Dome in Syracuse on two occasions to cheer them on.

Bob was the founder of the Robert M. King Funeral Home in Granville, where he settled with his wife of 52 years, Audrey M. King. Together they established the business in 1960 and made Granville their home. The Adirondack Funeral Director's Association honored Bob with a Certificate of Honorary Membership in recognition of his 50 years of funeral service.

 Bob was very active in the community of Granville throughout the years. Ever the sports fan, he particularly enjoyed being a Little League coach for 12 years. He was also involved in the traveling bowling league with his children. He enjoyed attending sporting events to watch his children, grandchildren and the opportunity to support the Granville youth in their athletic endeavors. Robert M. King Funeral Home was a sponsor of the American Legion Tournament since its inception and he attended all of the tournaments except this year's due to health issues.

After his son Charles became involved in the family business, Bob and Audrey were able to travel. Their journeys included travel to 40 states, nine Canadian provinces and five continents. Bob was a member of the Shriner Mini Car Corp and he and Audrey traveled throughout the northeast, while he participated in parades.

Bob thoroughly enjoyed time spent with his family. It was of the utmost importance to him. He was particularly pleased that during the winter all of his grandchildren were able to visit them in Florida. Bob was a regular at Scottie's Coffee Shop where he and his son Charlie had breakfast every morning.

In the warm weather Bob particularly enjoyed sitting on his front porch, waving to friends and neighbors as they passed. Bob was a member of the Granville Lodge No. 55 Free & Accepted Masons, and a Mason for 49 years. He was also a member of the Sandy Hill-Granville Chapter, Royal Arch Masons in Hartford, Calvary Commandry in Greenwich, Oriental Shrine Troy and Cairo Shrine in Rutland, Vt., Sylvan Star - Skenesborough Chapter No. 122 Order of the Eastern Star and was currently serving as the Grand Representative to Saskatchewan in New York and had served as Grand Representative of Iran in Exile. He was a communicant of Trinity Episcopal Church.

 In addition to his wife, Audrey (McMorris) King, Robert is survived by two sons, Charles J. King and his wife, Mary, of Granville and David M. King and his wife, Cathy, of Fishers, Ind.; and two daughters, Valerie King of Purling, N.Y. and Cynthia A. Trepanier and her husband, Paul, of Plainfield, Conn., four grandchildren: Robert C. King of Queensbury, Michael and Alexander Stenner of Plainfield, Conn. and Annamarie King of Fishers, Ind. Also surviving is an aunt, Barbara Wilson of Granville; and four sisters-in-law: Dolores Phaneuf of Salem, N.Y., Beverly Lloyd of Ohio, Marjorie Brueder of Queensbury and Shirley Shaw of Kentucky.

A private funeral service will be held on Monday, May 12, 2008, with a close family friend and former resident of Pawlet, Rev. David C. Newkirk officiating. Burial will follow in the Mettowee Valley Cemetery in Granville. A reception for family and friends will be held at the K of C Hall on Park Street in Granville starting at 11:30 a.m. on Monday. Friends may also call on Sunday, May 11, 2008 from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital, c/o Cairo Shriners, 51 Washington St., Rutland, VT 05701 or the Haynes House of Hope, P.O.
