Terence (Terry) W. Gillis

 



Terence (Terry) W. Gillis, age 59, of Simpsonville, went to be with his maker on Thursday, December 3, 2009, with his extended family at his side after a short battle with cancer.

He leaves behind a stepson, Jason Daigle; his special friend, Angel; three sons of Dover, N.H.; and his faithful canine companion, Elmo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, who lost her battle with cancer on September 16, 2009. Born in Cambridge, N.Y., he was the son of the late Warren and Jean Gillis; and brother of the late Gary Gillis. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He leaves behind a special niece, Marie Grant, who allowed both Terry and Helen to stay in their home for as long as possible; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Millie and Ken Hicklin of Simpsonville, S.C.; sisters-in-law, Jan Andrews and family, Sandra Hyde and spouse Calvin and family; brothers-in-law, Daniel Daigle and spouse Betty and family, Glenn Hicklin and special friend Chris and family, all of Simpsonville, Fred Morin and spouse Candy and family of Berwick, Maine; sister-in-law, Diana Gillis and family of Las Vegas, Nev.; and extended family members in Upstate New York.

Terry was self-employed prior to his illness. He was an avid amateur golfer.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be sent in memory of Terry & Helen Gillis to Heartland Hospice, 421 S.E. Main St., Suite 100, Simpsonville, SC 29681.

The families are at their prospective homes.

Memorial and burial for Terry & Helen will take place in the spring in Cambridge, N.Y. Date and time to be announced at a later date.
