Dorothy Morache Kosiba

Dorothy (Dottie) Kosiba, 82, of Columbus, NC, passed away September 1, 2019, from complications with ALS.  She faced this disease with grace and dignity and was an inspiration to many.  Her husband, Leo, was by her side throughout and they made the most of every minute together.

Dottie was born October 12, 1936, in New York City, the daughter of the late Bernard and Dorothy Morache.  She began her life on Long Island but her family soon moved to the country around Cambridge, NY.

She attended the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY.  She graduated in 1958 but met her husband to be, Leo, during that time while he was a student at nearby Siena College.  The two were set up on a blind date at a school dance and the rest is history.  On September 19, 1959, she married then 2nd Lieutenant Leo M. Kosiba.

Dottie taught high school business subjects in Greenwich, NY, following her graduation, but married Leo soon thereafter and began her life as an Army wife.  During their time in the military they lived in many cities, states and countries, raising four children.  Dottie smoothed the way for all her kids to make the many transitions through houses, schools and friends with her ever-positive approach to life.  She could turn any house into a home.

Dottie very much enjoyed sewing and crafting.  She could whip up curtains for a new home or fabricate a beautiful Santa figure.  At times she would use her skills to make pieces for gifts, craft shows, or donations to hospitals.   She was available to friends and family in need of a button sewn on, a hem raised or a tear repaired.

Dottie’s light shone very bright.  She touched many lives with her loving spirit and generous smile.  She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother for her family and a dear friend to many.

She is survived by her husband Leo, son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Gayle Kosiba; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Beth Kosiba; daughter Katherine Kosiba Farris; daughter and son-in-law, Christine Kosiba and Mark Lane; grandchildren, Chris Kosiba, David Kosiba, Kellie Kosiba Smith, Graham Kosiba, Coleton Kosiba, Cameron Farris, Alexandra Dorothy Farris, Aniela Dorothy Lane, and great grandson Logan Kosiba.

A memorial service is being held Saturday September 7, 2019, at 2 PM at Tryon Estates in Columbus, NC.
