James Michael Dawley

CJames Michael Dawley, 55, of East Main Street, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at Albany Medical Center after a short, courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Connie Lewis Dawley.

A life-long resident of Cambridge, Jim was born Dec. 11, 1950, the son of the late Alfred P. Dawley and Alice Smith Dawley Gaal of Cambridge.

He graduated from Cambridge Central School, class of 1970, and has always worked as a self employed auto mechanic.

Jim was known to many as “Cowhead,” a nickname given to him by his older brother when he was a young boy. He loved fishing, hunting, life and people. He was smart, witty and had a great sense of humor.

Jim and Connie were together for many years and married on Aug. 4, 1995. They loved to travel and took many wonderful vacations. He especially loved Hawaii and going on cruises, even though he sometimes had to wear a suit. Whatever Jim did, he had a good time doing it.

Along with his wife and mother, Jim is survived by a son, Michael James Dawley of Hudson Falls; two stepchildren, Barry Linendoll Jr. of Salem and Virginia Scheuer of Cambridge; seven grandchildren, whom he adored; five siblings, Ronald P. Dawley, Susan Dawley and Tom Dawley, all of Cambridge, Nancy D. Bates of Troy, and Dennis Dawley of Londonderry, Vt.; his stepfather, Ted Gaal of Cambridge; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service conducted by the Rev. Clyde Fobes of Center White Creek Baptist Church, a friend of Jim, was held on Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at 10 a.m. at the Cambridge United Presbyterian Church, 81 East Main St.

Jim was a “one of a kind guy,” an excellent husband, father and friend. He will be greatly missed.
