Bruce Ashworth
Everett Bruce
Ashworth passed away
on September 3, 2002
in Seattle after a
brief battle against
cancer. Mr. Ashworth
was born in
Cambridge on July
15, 1952, to Everett
and Margaret
(Miller) Ashworth,
the second of four
children.
The
family moved to the
Maple Avenue home in
1954. He graduated
from Cambridge
Central School in
1970, where he was a
member of the
football team and
played trombone in
the band. During his
high school years,
he became intrigued
by the early home
computers. Computers
became an interest
he was to follow
throughout his
career. He good
naturedly accepted
the role of "help
desk" for family and
friends.
Following high
school, he entered
the Colorado School
of Mines, in Golden.
Before graduating,
he began full time
employment with
Storage Technology
in the Denver area.
He married in 1977,
and started a
family. The young
family moved to
Florida in 1981,
where they followed
the teachings of the
Christian Science
church and he
continued with
Storage. In Florida,
he returned to
college, receiving
his B.S. in Computer
Science from the
University of
Central Florida in
1983.
Mr. Ashworth began
working for AT&T
after college. He
and his second wife,
Jacalyn May, were
married in November
1990. He accepted a
computer technical
product management
position with
Amdahl, moving to
Pleasanton,
California in 1991.
While in Pleasanton,
he and Jacalyn began
raising Yellow Lab
and Golden Retriever
puppies for training
as guide dogs, a
continuing
avocation. Later he
moved into sales
with Sun
Microsystems, where
his principal client
became Washington
Mutual Bank. In
2000, they moved to
Snoqualmie,
Washington where Mr.
Ashworth continued
employment with Sun,
garnering
recognition as one
of the top
performers.
Mr. Ashworth enjoyed
travel and visiting
with friends and
family. He became an
accomplished leader
in the guide dog
society and held
various leadership
positions in his
local branch
churches. He was
partial to
Volkswagen "Bugs"
and drove a New
Beetle. He is
survived by his
loving parents, his
wife, and four
children: Amianne of
Phoenix, AZ, Trevor
of Washington, DC,
Hayley and Gavin
