James Allen Aldrich

James Allen Aldrich, 56, died Wednesday, November 10, 2010 as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  He was the beloved husband of Deanna (Wilder) Aldrich.

Born Friday, December 18, 1953 in Cambridge, he was the son of Walter and Joyce Wadsworth Aldrich. He graduated from Cambridge Central School, class of 1972.  The following August 26, he and Deanna were married.

In 1974, while living in Florida, Jim joined the United States Army. He began his career as an Aircraft Components Repair Supervisor, mainly working on helicopters.  After a few years he chose to go a more humanitarian route and became a Medical Specialist.  When he took his training at Fort Sam Houston he did so well that he became an instructor and later a counselor.  He retired as a Sergeant First Class in 1994.  He received many awards including the Army Commendation Medal w/1 oak leaf cluster, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon and Expert Field Medical Badge, the highest honor a Medic can received in non-wartime.

Jim and his family lived in Florida, Germany, Massachusetts and were living in Fort Hood, TX at the time of his retirement.  They lived in Arkansas for several years before moving to the Cambridge area six years ago.

Jim continued his education and became a Licensed Practical Nurse.  Jim was currently as a private care nurse through CWI in Queensbury. His kind, patience manner made him “an angel” to the patients and families that he served.

Jim might have looked like a rough and tough kind of guy but he was truly a caring, sensitive man.  Several years ago he gave up cutting his hair until it grew long enough for him to donate it to “Locks of Love.” He was always thinking of others.

An avid hunter and outdoorsman, Jim loved everything about nature.

He and Deanna were communicants of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hoosick Falls.

Along with his wife of 38 years, he is survived by two sons, Daniel C. Aldrich and fiancé Pamela Dixon of San Antonio, TX and Joshua J. Aldrich and fiancé Nichole R. Harrington of Hoosick Falls; several siblings, including Carl Aldrich of Ballston Spa and Terry Aldrich of Warrensburg and two grandsons, Seth Strait and Corey T. Aldrich who was the light of his life.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Monday, November 15, 2010 from 4 PM to 6 PM at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 11 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 67 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY.

Burial with military honors will follow at 2 pm at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville .

Jim was a loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather and a wonderful caregiver to many, especially his grandson Corey.  He will be greatly missed.
