Thure Johnson

Thure John Johnson, Former Student of the Class of 1964, passed away January 15,2023 in Chubbock, Idaho after a 6 month battle with cancer. His parents, Thure John and Hilma Sofia (Saari) Johnson both worked at CCS.

After high school, Thure enlisted in the Navy and while stationed in San Diego, California, he met his wife Pat. They married after his discharge and settled there.

While living in California, Thure worked on large naval diesel engines, which sometimes took him as far as Japan. Sad incident when he arrived in Japan, he had placed his travel bag on the ground and turned to pay a taxi fare. When he turned around to pick up his bag, it had been stolen with his return airfare ticket in it. He finally did get home.

On retirement, Thure and Pat moved to Chubbock, Idaho. After awhile their son, TJ, also moved from San Diego to Chubbock, Idaho.

Thure loved his Finnish heritage and enjoyed searching for and then talking to his relatives in Finland. He was a proud Navy Vietnam Veteran. He loved his hometown of Cambridge, returning to attend the All Classes Reunions a few times, playing football for the Cambridge Indians, the Camden Valley area and his youth spent swimming in the Battenkill, especially at the Tackle Box.  He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

Thure leaves his wife Pat, and son Thure J  (TJ) Johnson III in Idaho, his loving sister June Johnson Lawrence, Class of 1961 and 2 nieces, Maija and Krista in Florida. He is also survived by many cousins and friends.

There will not be any visitation or formal funeral. Tentative plans are for burial in Cambridge in the Spring.
