It is with heavy hearts that the family of Stephen Vaughn Collamer announces his death on October 24, 2025, following complications from a head injury sustained while bicycling. He will always be remembered as a kind, gentle, loving man who put family and friends first.
Steve was born on November 26, 1957, to Charlotte Vaughn and Warren Collamer, the third of their four sons. Steve and his brothers, Joel, Dean, and Mark, had an idyllic childhood growing up in Cambridge, New York, and their camaraderie and wit were a source of great family entertainment and legendary stories shared often during family gatherings. He graduated from Cambridge Central School and went on to SUNY Potsdam graduating Cum Laude with a BA in Geology and received his MA in Geological Sciences at SUNY Binghamton. After graduation he was a geoscientist for more than 34 years with ExxonMobil including expatriate assignments in Calgary, Canada, and Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.
Steve met his beloved wife Jane out in the field working together on the Axemann Formation in Pennsylvania. Along with their son Ethan, and later with Ethan’s wife Tamiris, they enjoyed vacations exploring national parks and examining rocks in a variety of places. Ethan inherited his dad’s love of outdoor activities and quick wit. Steve was passionate about biking, even more so as an adult than as a boy playing with his brothers, and trained for and participated in numerous charitable events, including more than 2 dozen MS150 and Gran Fondo rides. He regularly rode with a group of friends who formed a tight-knit team and for many was the inspiration to begin training and riding for the MS 150 ride from Houston to Austin, Texas.
Steve was proud and thrilled in 2024 to become a grandfather to Ethan and Tam’s daughter Charlotte. It was obvious she adored Steve very much, especially when they blew bubbles outside, read books, or played with toys together on the floor.
In addition to his wife Jane, son Ethan and wife Tam and his granddaughter Charlotte, Steve is survived by his aunt Beverly Collamer of Cambridge, New York; his brother Joel and wife Nancy of Langhorne, Pennsylvania, his brother Dean and wife Patty of Hanover, Pennsylvania, his brother Mark and wife Rosemary of Dracut, Massachusetts, and his brother-in-law Jim Bubeck and wife Madelyn of New Brighton, Pennsylvania as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Steve was predeceased by his parents Charlotte and Warren Collamer.
A memorial service in The Woodlands area for family and friends is being planned for a future date.
Condolences may be sent to Winscott Road Funeral Home website.
