Stanley E. McLenithan

Salem, NY-Stanley E. “Goat” McLenithan, 84, formerly of Salem, passed away Wednesday night, March 12, 2014 at The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls.


Born November 30, 1929 in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Franklin and Margaret (Hedges) McLenithan. Stanley graduated from Cambridge Union School where he played sports. He began working as an auctioneer at the age of 16 and then went to work for the family business, Cambridge Valley Livestock in Cambridge where he was the owner and auctioneer for many years before retiring in 2004.
Stanley was an active member of the Shushan United Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder for many years and also a Deacon.
Stanley loved to play golf, hunt, fish and take trips to Pennsylvania. He enjoyed playing cards with his grandchildren.


In addition to his parents, Stanley was also predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Grace Herrington McLenithan who passed away November 20, 2006; a son, Clark McLenithan who passed away May 2007; brothers, Charles and Irving McLenithan and a sister, Joyce Adams.


Stanley is survived by his children, Doug McLenithan and his wife Penny of Eagle Bridge, NY, Gina Berger and her husband Robert of Shushan, NY and Michelle Nolan and her husband Jamie of Greenwich, NY. He is also survived by a brother, Glenn McLenithan of Cambridge, NY; sisters, Ruth Skellie of Greenwich, NY and Lorraine Bovard of Hoosick Falls, NY; grandchildren, Doug and Stanley McLenitahn, Amanda Fusaro, Bianca Bates, Heidi Kirchner, Heather Yuschak, Jason Nolan and Jessica Doherty; great grandchildren, Ruth, Weston and Silas Nolan, Breanna, Nolan and Garrett Doherty, Jackson and Finnigan Kirchner.


Relatives and friends may call from 12:00 pm until 2:30 pm on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Shushan United Presbyterian Church, County Route 64, Shushan. A funeral service will begin at 2:30 pm following the calling hours. A reception will be held in the church hall for family and friends following the services.


Interment will take place at Woodlands Cemetery at a later date.
