Rosalyn Louise Perry Wesalak

Rosalyn Louise Perry Weselak of Grand Island, New York, passed on to the next life in the company of her immediate family at home, with a smile on her face. Her strong faith in a Living God and Savior Jesus Christ sustained her through several long years in her battle with breast cancer, which she beat, and then pancreatic cancer.

Rosalyn was the wife of the late Thaddeus "Ted" Weselak. Mother of Timothy (Lori), Todd (Vicki), Vincent (Rachel) and Andrew (Christa) Weselak. Grandmother of Kayleigh, Amanda, Chelsea, Danielle, Jonathan, Joshua, Jacob, Zoe Anna, Margaret and Elijah Weselak. Also survived by her dog Butters. Sister of Oliver (Dorothy), James (Anita), Leverne (Beverly) and Arnold Perry. Rosalyn was the daughter of the late Maurice and Margaret Perry and sister of Oliver (Dorothy), James (Anita), Leverne (Beverly) and Arnold Perry. (Sue Giambra an Island neighbor, close friend, and fellow widower has been included in the list of survivors.)

Rosalyn was born July 22, 1943 at home in Margaret and Maurice Perry's farm house on Delevan Road in the town of White Creek. She attended the little country school house on route 68 located between Post Corners and the junction of Route 67. When it closed she attended the new Cambridge Central School and graduated in 1961. Although cheerleaders no longer exist in CCS, she was a member of both the football and basketball cheerleading squads. Rosalyn graduated from Cobleskill College (2yr. course) and finished her training in home economics at the University of Buffalo. She taught home economics in the Buffalo area public school system for a few years before becoming a full time mother of four boys.

Rosalyn and her family eventually settled on Grand Island, building a home on the East Niagara River while her husband Ted taught High School in the Buffalo Public School System. Rosalyn had a passion for water and eventually became an accomplished water skier, even into her 70ties, mastering the more difficult technique of skiing on one ski. In her later years she and her friend Sue spent many hours kayaking the river.

From the day she left home for Western New York Rosalyn frequented her original home here in the town of White Creek. She enjoyed coming back to the farm, seeing the turkeys, sheep, and lambs, visiting friends, attended reunions, local activities, and family gatherings. And, every summer she took time to canoe the Battenkill with her husband and other family members, as well as to attend the Jermain Methodist Church in White Creek. Rosalyn never left her roots here in "God’s Country” (land of the Eagle Press) and remained a part of this community in spirit. Several of her last participatory community activities included attending our CCS All Classes Reunion last year, stopping by the Andrew dairy farm just down the road from Perry Orchard to inspect the new robotic milking parlor, attending the Jermain Hall for our annual family Christmas party, and her visit this past spring to her old home church, White Creek Jermain Methodist.

The lesson she wanted passed on is that ultimately all of our “stuff” does not matter. Relationships with neighbors, friends, family, and the God of our Fathers, are all that matter. She publicly committed herself to Jesus Christ in the local Baptist Church in Post Corners while a teenager in the 50's. As she said, she may have stumbled around a bit early on, but eventually she returned to Christ, found her refuge and strength in Him, and remained steadfast to her earlier commitment.

By the time this obituary appears to Eagle readers the funeral for Rosalyn will have passed. However, remembrances may still be posted, on line at the Kaiser Funeral Home, 1950 Whitehaven Rd., Grand Island, New York 14072. (http://kaiserfuneral.com/obituaries
