Michael James Dawley, 50, a resident of Fort Ann, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on September 4, 2024. Born on December 8, 1973, in Bennington, VT, Michael was the cherished son of James “Cowhead” Dawley and Rosemary Pugliese.
Michael grew up in Cambridge, NY, where he was known for his hardworking spirit and kind heart. A proud graduate of Cambridge Central School, he continued his education at Adirondack Community College and earned his Bachelor’s degree, setting the stage for a fulfilling career. For eight years, Michael served as a Corrections Officer at the Washington Correctional Facility in Comstock, NY, where his dedication and integrity were widely respected.
Outside of his professional life, Michael had a profound passion for service and adventure. He actively participated in animal search and rescue, volunteered at the SPCA, and loved spending time boating on the Hudson River and Lake George. His enthusiasm for working on cars, particularly with his father, was a source of great joy, exemplified by the car they built together. Michael also found happiness in family gatherings, holiday celebrations, and outdoor activities such as hiking. His commitment to community service extended to volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.
Michael is survived by his mother, Rosemary Dawley Dunn of Bennington, VT, and a close-knit family including aunts and uncles Kathy & Larry LeBarron of Hoosick Falls, Colleen Pugliese of Hoosick Falls, Ed & Charlene Pugliese of Glens Falls, Ron & Connie Dawley of Cambridge, Sue Dawley of Cambridge, Tom Dawley of Cambridge, Nancy & John Bates of Troy, Dennis Dawley of Londonderry, VT, and Donna Starr of Hoosick Falls. He is also remembered by many beloved cousins. Michael was predeceased by his father, James “Cowhead” Dawley, his paternal grandparents Alfred & Alice Dawley, his maternal grandparents Nick & Carolyn Pugliese, and cousins Jayme Bates & Lisa Dawley.
Family and friends are invited to honor Michael’s life during calling hours on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, located at 73 West Main Street in Cambridge, NY.

Michael’s legacy of compassion and community spirit will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
