Maegan Ruth Becker

Shushan-Friday, October 14th, 2016, Maegan Ruth Becker, the daughter of Brian and Paryese Becker passed away at her home in Shushan after a 2 ˝ year battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme‎ (brain cancer). Maegan was twenty-two years old.

Maegan Becker was born in Cambridge on May 22, 1994 where she attended Cambridge Central School graduating in 2012. Maegan went on to pursue Dental Hygiene at Hudson Valley Community College during which she was diagnosed with Non-GBM at the age of 20.

Maegan had worked at Price Chopper in Manchester, VT, picked blueberries and also worked at Jay’s Pizza.

Maegan was a strong minded young lady, a realist, philosopher and very passionate about her beliefs. Maegan took nutrition very seriously, believing in organic and non GMO, often reminding her mother as they grocery shopped, to read every label.

Maegan enjoyed many things such as drawing and art, growing up in the quaint little town of Shushan, NY where she often would be seen tubing or kayaking with her friends down the Battenkill River, one of her favorite places to be. Maegan was always up for a nature walk or may be spotted just chilling by the river’s edge at the Georgi on the Battenkill. Despite Maegan’s left-sided hemiparesis, she frequented her local YMCA often. Maegan also participated in their Live Strong program, never giving up and always giving her all to regain & maintain function. Like most young women, Maegan loved to shop and often stopped for lunch at the Greenwich Village Café & Bakery with her mother Paryese.

Maegan has traveled much of our great country on several family trips, visiting at least half of the United States. She has seen sites such as The Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Niagara Falls, Yellowstone National Park and the Black Hills. Maegan and her family have cruised to the Caribbean several times. The most recently trip was with a close family friend, Dan Davis that provided the opportunity for Maegan to explore Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Maegan loved new adventure and the beauty that each place presented. Maegan did everything with dignity and grace for the past two years after her diagnoses. This was her battle and she fought it her way, a true reflection of her personality. Despite several attempts to keep her disease at bay and not succeeding, she decided to cease further attempts. Although her body continued to decline, her soul grew and spirit shined. Maegan was confident she would have eternal life and rein in Heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

In addition to her parents, Maegan is survived by her two brothers, Brian Becker of Cambridge and Lukas Becker of Shushan; her sister, Samantha Becker of Cohoes; her maternal grandmother, Winifred LeBarron of Cambridge and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Maegan is predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Archie & Kay Becker of Cambridge and her uncle, David Becker of Cambridge.

A special thank you to Maegan’s aunt Tanya and Dan Davis for being her rock over the last couple of years. A thank you to Community Hospice of Saratoga, especially Karen for all of your compassion and kind support.

At this time, no services will be held. Maegan’s family will have a celebration of her life on the last Friday in April, Arbor Day, more information will be announced.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation in memory of Maegan to the Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center, 140 Hospital Dr., Bennington, VT 05201.
