Chris Richard Kyer


Chris R. Kyer, age 64, of Lake Village, died Saturday, October 13, 2012, at his home. He was born June 15, 1948, in Troy, New York, the son of the late George W. Kyer and Marjorie A. Beaumont Kyer and was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and a retired Agricultural Programs Manager for the USDA Farm Services Agency. He was a graduate of Syracuse University and served in the Army National Guard for six years. He was County Executive Director in Cortland County, and Yates County, New York for the USDA Farm Service Agency from 1970 to 1999 then Agricultural Program Manager/Program Specialist for the USDA in Washington, DC from 1999- 2008. He retired following a distinguished career administering Federal farm programs at the county and national levels. He was an expert in Federal agricultural program administration and management, policy making, and quality/performance improvement.

He is survived by his wife, Julie Floriani of Lake Village; 2 sons, Matt (Carole) Kyer of Saratoga, Springs, NY and Craig (Mandy) Kyer of Buskirk, NY; 2 step-daughters, Leslie (Matt) Lum of Vicksburg, MS and Mandy (Bart) Doyle of Destin, FL; 2 sisters, Audra (Robert) Stemple and Jan (Randy) Krampitz and four grandchildren, Alexis, Kayden, Landry, and Mackenzie.

Visitation will be from 5 to 6 PM Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012 with Rosary at 6:00 PM, at Bishop Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with Father Theophilos Okpara as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Isadore Cemetery under the direction of Bishop Funeral Home of Lake Village. Another memorial service will be held at a later date in upstate New York.
