Joyce Royal Bentley



 Joyce Lee Bentley, 81, a Cambridge native, died in the early hours of Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. She was the wife of Morris Van Fleet Bentley, aka Pork, who died September 30, 2011.

Born Friday, December 5, 1930, she was the only child of Lawrence and Marion Smith Royal. After receiving her education at Cambridge Union School, she married Pork on February 5, 1951. She worked hard as a farmer’s wife and raising their four children.

There was little time for hobbies, but Joyce always found time for crossword puzzles. She was very good at them and continued them throughout her life.

As a member of Unit #632 Captain Maxson American Legion Auxiliary, she helped to prepare many dinners. She really enjoyed the cooking and the comradery with the girls.

Joyce and Pork were residents at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington for 18 months prior to his death. She returned home for a short time before moving to the Health Center.

A daughter, Gwendolyn Bentley Pratt, died before her.

She is survived by three children, Lawrence Bentley and wife Rose Marie Thrane, Richard Bentley and wife Patricia, all of Cambridge, Susan Ann Matraw and husband Jay of Gansevoort; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Friday, January 6, 2012 from noon till 2 PM at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge.

A funeral service conducted by Rev. Rev. Kate Kotfila will begin at 2 PM with burial following at Woodlands Cemetery, Cambridge.
