Jonathan G. Piekarz

Cambridge-On Sunday June 24, Jonathan George Piekarz (48) passed away unexpectedly at home following a short illness. Jonathan was born at Peekskill, NY on November 12, 1969; the youngest of five children born to Veronica (Yurcho) Piekarz and Walter Piekarz Jr. Jonathan was born with multiple challenges stemming from his primary diagnosis of Spina Bifida. So began innumerable trips to medical specialist all over the country. This younger child brought to his family many unexpected lessons of caring, compassion, and survival.

Jonathan’s family moved to upstate NY in 1973 to venture into the business of campground entrepreneurs as they developed the farmland into a small pristine place of relaxation along the banks of the Battenkill in Jackson Cambridge New York (Batttenkill Riversports). Jonathan grew up with the love of his family and the excitement of meeting new people through the campground. He was always happy when he was in the midst of the many projects and adventures the campground inspired.

His character reflected a broad knowledge base which were afforded him through his personal experiences and his association with so many people in the medical field. Entering the public school system in the seventies for a child ‘with disabilities’ was an additional challenge which Jonathan and his family faced head on and paved the way for others to follow at Cambridge Central School. Jonathan made many friends at school and graduated Cambridge Central School with the class of 1991.

Throughout his high school career and his life, Jon enjoyed being connected via the computer world. He used several computer programs including one to help his mom keep track of the business activity flow. He enjoyed making cards for all occasions on his computer for all his friends and family. Of course there were a number of games that helped pass the time. The summer time you would find Jon at the wheel of his golf cart visiting with the campers. He loved animals and had a companion dog or cat by his side, most recently Twilight had taken up the position.

Jonathan loved to attend concerts with his life time friends and nurses Wendy and Judy. He loved to bowl, he enjoyed tennis, archery, going to the mall, visiting with friends, Facebook, soaking up the sun. Jonathan most enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews growing up and the next generation as they have arrived.

Jonathan was predeceased by his father Walter Piekarz Jr., and his brother Christopher Piekarz, his paternal grandparents Walter and Sophie (Teleshuk) Piekarz Sr., his maternal grandparents George and Anna (Timko) Yurcho.

Jonathan is survived by his mother Veronica (Yurcho) Piekarz, sister Suzanne Piekarz, brother Gregory (Teresa) Piekarz all of Cambridge. His brother Jeffim (Colleen) Piekarz of Peekskill, NY. Also nieces and nephews and great niece and great nephews.
