John J. Flynn

ALBANY - John J. Flynn, peacefully at rest, July 13, 2025, with those he loved by his side.
John was born April 27, 1946, the third of nine children to Marjorie Tate Flynn and Willard Flynn. He grew up in Buskirk, attended St. Mary's School and graduated from Cambridge Central School. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam war. Upon completion of his military service, John earned a Business Administration degree from Siena College and began a career with State of New York, including employment in the Health Department and retiring from the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities.
The defining moment of his life was the birth of his daughter, Margaret, and he was immensely proud of her accomplishments, culminating in the day he accompanied her down the aisle in her marriage to Zack Chabot.
John was a baseball fanatic and would cite statistics and discuss legends of the game with fellow enthusiasts. He was a loyal fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers until their decampment to Los Angeles. He subsequently adopted the New York Mets and he and Margaret shared hours of enjoyment following their progress, or lack thereof.
John is survived by his life companion, Sheila Rowlands; their daughter, Margaret; and son-in-law, Zachary Chabot; siblings, Patricia Hall (David), Dennis Flynn (Nancy), Mary Gifford (Steve), Kathleen Galluzzo (Tom), Daniel Flynn (Bette Lee); and sister-in-law, Patricia Flynn; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased and dearly missed by, his parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, Willard (Lois), Michael and Timothy (Jeanne).
Services were private with family and friends.
If so inclined, remembrances may be made in John's name to Catholic Charities of the Albany Diocese. To leave a message of condolence for the family, visit www.CannonFuneral.com
