Joan Christine (Butler) Husum

Joan Christine (Butler) Husum, of the Plano/Richardson area, passed away January 6, 2019, at the age of 87. She was born October 14, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY, to William J. and Hertha (Senft) Butler. Joan graduated high school in Cambridge NY  in 1949 Joan attended St. Vincent’s School of Nursing and graduated in 1952. She retired after 28 years in nursing. Joan loved helping others and used her nursing skills to volunteer in clinics to help the poor. She loved nature and all of God’s creatures, especially the love of her life, her beloved cat, Tux. A good Christian woman, family was everything to Joan and she will be greatly missed. 

Joan is survived by her children: Mary Alice Caffarel, Judy Walls and husband Mike, Chris “Red” Husum, Janie Husum and Jim Husum; grandchildren: Chris Caffarel and wife Joy, Thomas Caffarel and wife Jocelyn, Robert Caffarel and wife Samantha, Patrick Caffarel and Laura Walls; great grandchildren: Alex and Catherine Caffarel, Kristi Sieng and Layla Caffarel; and dear friend that brought her such joy the past few years: Wes Thorsen. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years: Charles Husum; and great grandson: Steven Caffarel.

Funeral services will be held 11:00am Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 1305 Damascus Rd., Rockwall, 75087, with Father George Monaghan officiating. A reception will be held following the service at The Gathering at Rest Haven Funeral Home – Rockwall Location. The family will receive friends Friday evening at the funeral home from 7:00 to 9:00pm. Interment will occur at a later date at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Cambridge, NY.
