Harold R. Reed Jr

CAMBRIDGE –Harold Ralph Reed, Jr., 53, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the son of Alice Bartholomew Reed Farnsworth of Cambridge and the late Harold Ralph Reed, Sr. Harold was born on January 7, 1963 in Cambridge, NY and was a graduate of Cambridge Central School Class of 1982.

He had been currently employed as a tractor trailer truck driver for Western Express of Nashville, TN. Harold served in the U.S. Army from 1984 to 1991. He was a member in the Captain Maxson Post 634 American Legion in Cambridge, NY and he belonged to the Elk’s Club and the VFW, both in California.

Harold enjoyed sports very much and loved watching his favorite teams. These included the New York Yankees baseball, the Raiders football and the University of Syracuse basketball teams. He had a love for music and especially listened to rock and blues. He would attend concerts in his free time. You often could find him in front of the BBQ cooking which he was pretty good at. He loved to drive which served him well.

In addition to his mother Alice, Harold is survived by his three daughters, Anna Reed of Westbrook, Me., Jesika Reed of Greenwich, N.Y. and Christina Reed of Cambridge, N.Y. In addition, two sisters and a brother survive, Elaine Pal of Ashland, N.H., Donna (Keith) Plog of Greenwich, N.Y. and Robert (Lisa) Reed of Leonardtown, Md. as well as many nieces, nephews & cousins.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother and step grandfather, Hugh and Gladys Mattison; paternal grandparents, Ralph and Anna Reed.

Calling hours will be Monday, March 21, 2016 from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at the Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge, N.Y. followed by interment services and military honors at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 1:00 pm.

A celebration of Harold’s life will be from 2:30-6:00 pm at the American Legion Post in Cambridge following the services on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in memory of Harold be made to the Captain Maxson Post 634, American Legion, 2106 NY-22, Cambridge, NY 12816.
