Hanna McKernon Alexander


Cambridge-Hanna L. Alexander, 87, formerly of Cambridge, passed away Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Bennington Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Hanna was born February 20, 1930 in Greenwich and was the daughter of the late Alton and Ruth (Pearson) McKernon. She was a 1948 graduate of Cambridge High School and in her early years, Hanna worked for the Telephone Company in Greenwich and then at Meikleknox in Cambridge in various capacities, but mostly stayed at home raising her children.

Hanna enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, cooking, baking and tending to her flower gardens.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Kent.

Hanna is survived by her husband of 67 years, Charles R. “Blackie” Alexander, Sr. whom she married July 8, 1950; her children, Charles R. (Donna) Alexander, Jr. of Jonesborough, TN, Jack M. Alexander of Eagle Bridge, Jean E. (Michael) Slingerland of Hoosick Falls and Gloria A. (Rick) Robertson of Cambridge; a sister and two brothers, Ethel McKernon of Cambridge, Donald McKernon of Cambridge and Alton “Buddy” McKernon of West Virginia. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins.

Calling hours will be Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 1-3 pm at the Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge. A service will begin following the calling hours at 3:00 pm with Rev. Debbie Earthrowl officiating. Interment will be at Woodlands Cemetery in Cambridge.
