Charles “Chuck” Watkins

CAMBRIDGE-Charles “Chuck” Edward Watkins, born on January 28, 1951, in Cambridge, NY, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 after a long and frustrating battle with cancer.

Charles was the son of the late Francis “Beaver” and Betty Watkins and predeceased by his loving wife, Sarah (Price) Watkins. He is survived by his son’s Dean and Shane Watkins, and daughter, Jennifer (Watkins) Sweenor. He was also a proud and loving brother, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Chuck had a lifelong love for construction, with a passion for excavation work. He was known as one of the best operators in the area, he built a reputation through his skill and dedication. Even after retiring from the Town of Cambridge, his love for the work remained strong. He purchased his own excavator and continued digging whenever he had the chance.

He cherished time spent on his daughter and son-in-law's farm, always eager to dig and mow as often as he could. When not working, he was often found fishing or at the local Stewart's shop, laughing with friends and trying his luck on scratch-offs. The sight of his “old truck” in the parking lot was a sure sign he was there, enjoying the company of his friends.

Chuck had a deep affection for his old Dodge truck and frequently embarked on road trips with his children and best friends, enjoying the freedom of the open road in their old cars and trucks. Those who knew and loved him will deeply miss his zest for life, his jokes, and his warm smile.

Charles will be laid to rest with his loving wife Sarah at a private service.

A celebration of life will be held at the residence of Shane & Heather Watkins, located at 2943 State Route 67, Buskirk, NY on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 2-6pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the C. R. Wood Cancer Center, 100 Park St., Pruyn Pavilion, Glens Falls, NY 12801.
