Carol May King Mohler

After a long illness, Carol Mohler died peacefully at home on September 13, 2012, with her loving family at her side.

Carol was born in Cambridge, New York, in 1951, daughter of Edward and Inez King. She graduated from Syracuse University with a BSc in community service and went on to receive a BSc in nursing from Alfred University.

Carol devoted her life to serving others. Her twenty years as a public health nurse for Tompkins County brought her into contact with many in the community. They remember her as a gentle caregiver with a special gift for comforting anxious clients. Her colleagues knew her as a consummate professional who never took shortcuts and who brought thoughtful consideration to every project she worked on. Carol was active in the Ithaca Friends Meeting (Quakers) since 1979. Deeply committed to all issues of social justice, Carol served on the Social Justice Committee for over fifteen years, participating in meetings up to the time of her death. She loved music, bird watching, and cherished her extensive flower gardens. Her quiet, loving presence throughout her illness inspired everyone who knew her. She will be sorely missed.

Carol is survived by her husband of 33 years, Charles "Chuck" Mohler; by her daughter, Ariel, stepson, Loden (Maggie Stanley), sisters Penelope Pytko (Charles), Joanna Lee (Richard), Elizabeth Stavenger (David), Pamela Hixon (Todd), and her brother, Alfred King (Nancy). She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Ruth King Seiger. A Memorial Meeting for Worship will be held at a later date.
