Shaw, 86, a
resident of
Delmar,
passed away
peacefully
on December
28, 2010.
Bette was
born in
Schenectady,
N.Y. to
Riley and
Emma
Bressler.
She
graduated
from
Cambridge
High School,
Cambridge
N.Y., in
1942 and
went on to
become a
registered
nurse at St.
John's
Episcopal
Hospital in
Brooklyn,
N.Y.
Following
her
graduation
in 1945, she
worked at
Ellis
Hospital and
Albany
Medical
Center
Hospital.
Bette was
very active
in the
community,
volunteering
her time
with the
American Red
Cross and
the gift
shop at
Child's
Hospital,
where she
also served
as secretary
of the board
of directors
and sat on
the board of
governors.
Bette was
publicly
recognized
for logging
more than
16,000 hours
of her time
volunteering
to help
others.
Bette lived
a life close
to God and
was an
active
member of
St.
Stephen's
Episcopal
Church in
Delmar,
where she
taught
Sunday
school,
served on
the vestry,
worked with
the women's
group, and
sang in the
choir.
Bette is
survived by
her husband
of 59 years,
Colonel
Robert A.
Shaw of
Delmar,
N.Y.; her
four
children,
Deborah
(Bill)
Swietlik of
Fairfax,
Va., Susan
Shaw (John
Corbelli) of
Honoeye
Falls, N.Y.,
Linda Shaw
(Rod Foster)
of Port
Jefferson
Station,
N.Y., and
Donald Shaw
(Susanne) of
Scottsdale,
Ariz.; her
sister, Mary
Lou Brown of
Annapolis,
Md.; four
nieces; one
nephew; and
nine
grandchildren.
Her
kind heart
and
willingness
to always
put others
before
herself made
her a dear
friend to
many. Her
unconditional
love for her
family will
remain
forever in
their
hearts. She
will be
deeply
missed. A
service in
memory of
Bette will
be held at
St.
Stephen's
Episcopal
Church, 16
Elsmere Ave,
Delmar, N.Y.
on
Wednesday,
January 5,
2011 at
11:00 a.m.

Bette,
donations

to St.

Church or a
