Barbara Wocell Luke

Wilton, N.Y. -- Barbara Jean Wocell Luke, 77, of Wilton, formerly of Cossayuna, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the Home of The Good Shepherd in Wilton.

Barbara was born in Cambridge on Dec. 8, 1939 and was the daughter of the late Charles and Esther (Strenk) Wocell. She was a 1957 graduate of Cambridge Central School and earned her associate’s degree from SUNY Cobleskill in 1959. She married Robert Luke on July 1, 1961 and they moved to Goshen, NY, where they raised their children Amanda, Donald and Michael.

Barbara loved her flower gardens, animals, camping, shopping and cooking, especially baking. She also enjoyed traveling and took special interest in touring the National Parks. The family made several road trips across the United States and Canada in the 1970’s, sometimes camping by tent or trailer or staying at hotels. She also traveled to California several times to visit her daughter and on one trip they traveled to Hawaii.

Barbara worked at Orange County Community College, sold Bee Line clothing and was a teller at Goshen Savings Bank before she began a career at the New York State Court System, 9th Judicial District in Goshen, NY. She worked in the Surrogate and Family courts until she retired as an order clerk in 1997 after 12 years of service.

Barbara and Bob moved to Cossayuna in 2000 because they missed the beautiful countryside they grew up in. They enjoyed their house in the country and re-connected with old friends, before moving to Wilton in 2016.

Barbara will be remembered for her bright smile, sharp wit and gentle regard for all she met. She loved to talk and share news with friends and family, loving nothing more than sitting and talking with those she loved.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Cambridge.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings Carolyn Carr, Neil Wocell, Constance Wocell and Robert Wocell.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert A. Luke; her children, Amanda Luke of Wilton, NY, Don Luke of Rosendale, NY and Michael Luke of Lakewood, OH; and grandson, Ryan Newton of Lansing, NY, and more than a dozen nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. Schuylerville.
