SEPTEMBER 5, 2015

Dear CCS Alumni and Friends, hope everyone is having a safe and happy Labor Day Weekend….the last hooray of summer.  Here in Mississippi, the temperatures pay no attention to the calendar so we are still stifling in the heat here.  Sure do miss UPSTATE New York and Vermont in the Fall!!

Thanks to those who sent in some news for this newsletter.  How about the rest of you?  Do you have anything you wish to share?  Remember,  put your name, class year and where you are living now in the body of the email!!!

Frank Smith, Class of 76

Joy and I just returned to the Cambridge area after a 6 week trip out to the west and mid west. During the trip we attended the week long Experimental Aircraft Association AirVenture in Oshkosh Wisconsin. While there, we presented a young lady (Karen Maurer)  who was a participant in the Women Soar You Soar program the first annual $3500 scholarship to be awarded in memory of our daughter Morgan who lost her life in a small plane crash in May 2014.  Prior to Morgan's death she was employed by Lockheed Martin where she was the Flying Qualities Lead Engineer for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. She loved mentoring young ladies through various programs especially the EAA, Women Soar You Soar program

To learn more about that program visit:

Mary P. Richards, Former CCS English teacher
I just got back from a week in Santa Fe at their opera festival.  It included the world premiere of Cold Mountain, based on the novel.  The New York Times dismissed it with one sentence.   They'll eat their words because it was wonderful.   I'm not a big fan of most modern operas but this one is a keeper.

Sorry I missed the All Class Reunion but the summer has been particularly demanding.

Hope all is well with you and that you are daily working your way to Wonder Woman!

Love,  Mary

Patti Turi , Class of 1976 is now fighting her second battle with mesothelioma.  The 5th annual Kayaking for Meso fundraising event will be held on Sept 12.  Participants kayak on the Hudson from Stillwater to Halfmoon.  This is a link to the website.  http://www.kayaking4meso.org/index.html
It would be great if we could get some alumni to participate or even just attend and watch.  Patti has kayaked in all previous years but won't be able to this year as she'll be starting chemo soon.

Bud Pytko…reporting on Alex DeVito, Class of 1956
Penny and I went up to see Alex this week. He's looking good. Still not able to talk and don't know if he ever will. It was a pretty severe stroke.  I showed him the photos of the reunion and a video I took of the class of '56 waving and saying Hi to him....he just LOVED it!  He was so excited to see that. I posted his daughter's address in the Facebook page and hopefully he will get a few cards from that.  She takes any cards she gets to him and reads them to him but the cards are too few and too far between.
His address is 15 Dartmouth Dr, Delran, New Jersey.  08075

Ken Gottry, Class of 1968
Patrician Hall was purchased at public auction 2 months ago. This week they started painting it

It's not as great as being there, but for those long-distance CCS alumni who couldn't attend, here's a photo from the top of the Ferris wheel at the just-concluded Washington County Fair. The aroma of kettle korn, cotton candy, and fried dough will always bring out your inner-child.
