Douglas Wilkie, Troy, NY and either 1964/65
Pauline, love your emails.

This is in response to June Johnson Lawrence's email.  We have a lot in common, we both have daughters named Krista (my daughter's name is spelled Christa)  We will also be going to Germany the end of November but ours is a vacation.  We will be taking a Christmas Market cruise on Viking.  I will be revisiting the Munich Hofbrauhaus that John Davis and I met up together for the 1967 Oktoberfest.  I will be sending John, hopefully, a picture of a very large beer from the Hofbrauhaus.  Good luck on your trip.  Say hello to Thure for me the next time you talk.

Bob Inslerman; Saranac Lake, New York – Class of 1963

Colors are at their peak here in Saranac Lake with snow predicted next week.  Some fond memories of fall in Cambridge include:

  • the rustling sounds of walking thru freshly fallen leaves on Main Street
  • the smell of burning leaves
  • the sound of blue-jays which always seem louder in the fall as if signaling the coming of winter
  • eating concord grapes from my parents grape vines on cold fall afternoons then going into a warm house heated with wood
  • frosty mornings waiting for the school bus
  • buying shaving cream at the 5 & 10 cents store (I don’t think we were old enough to shave but Halloween was just around the corner)
  • football games at CCS with Doug Dornan and Ray Purdy.  Always thought their shoulder pads made them look huge.
  • horror movies shown in the gym at CCS – all in black and white; the Creature from the Black Lagoon being the only title that I can remember.

NOTE FROM PAULINE:  The movie that scared me and my sister Susan was titled “Them”  about giant ants.  Had nightmares for months.  Can’t watch a scary movie to this day.

Jann Thum Smith, Class of 72, Florida:
Fall?  What Fall?  If you're referring to the gorgeous, sunny, balmy, breezy, low 80s wonderful weather we're having, I'm all in.  As for chilly nights, crisp air, maybe even seeing my breath in the morning -- you can have my share!  But not the apples.  Keep sending the apples south for some great pie making!

Debby Bowler Briscoe; Class of 1969; El Granada, CA

Yes!  The smell of burning leaves, after you raked a huge pile and jumped in them until they were pulverized.  Bonfires, apple cider, doughnut holes from King’s bakery and hayrides.  Cheering at football games, and Chris having to remove her “Free Huey” button.

Lots of pumpkin peeking in Half Moon Bay, CA; and the 45th art and pumpkin festival this weekend.
Debby has submitted a Fall picture that can be seen here at Seasons on our web site.

Ted Presler Class of 1956,

Hi all and greetings from Silver City, New Mexico. Although we are a desert region, we have 3.5 million acres of the Gila National Park to our North. Normally we have a constant threat of forest fires, but this year we have been blessed with record rainfall (but not like South Carolina). It is now a southwestern Fall here with beautiful Cambridge- like weather. Silver City is one of the busiest towns in New Mexico--12K population with a blues festival, clay festival, book festival, strings festival, fiber festival, stones and mineral festival, the finest Tour of the Gila bike race and a celebration of the Gila River that runs through 3 states (each time this occurs each year I think about the wonderful Battenkill River that my father, brother and I used to fish.)
Thanks to my wonderful high school experiences in Cambridge, I have kind of returned to my roots by being part of the theatrical groups here and singing in the chamber a cappella singers (35 strong). We have a very active adult education group that offers 165 classes per year at a big cost of $75 per year manned by a large group of volunteers who teach. I now teach a film class every semester. I cannot forget to add that it was the Cambridge Boy Scout Troop that first brought me to New Mexico when I was 14; we went to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico and traveled  by car through a number of states (yikes that was 1954!!).

All the very best to my former classmates and the other members of the classes we had great fun with. Stay healthy!!!!

Cheers.

Comments about  the passing of Retired Teacher, Barbara Sherman

Peter Meerwarth: She taught English when I was in school.  She was quite a character!  I once saw her singlehandedly stop a student walk-out simply by standing in front of the exit and pointing her finger indicating to go back to class.

Dave Thornton: Sorry to hear of Barbara's passing.  She was a colleague for some years and a friend and history bud for many more.  My world grows smaller with the passing of each such individual.

Tracy Odell-Wooddell: She looked kind of scary when you first met her but she was a great teacher. She is why I love to read as I do now as an adult.\

Robb Kinnin : If you step back from her teaching manor-isms, you may have found that you came away with a great deal in terms of English.  It wasn't until years down the road that I realized how I much I appreciated what she taught me. Memory Eternal!

Dorothy Everall class of 1976
I remember her she was a cool teacher. a bit strick. Because of Ms Sherman, I  volunteered at the Salem playhouse one summer helping to make costumes. I tried out for a singing part but could not sing so Ms Sherman suggested I help with making costumes  it was so much fun and I got to see the musical for free also.

There are 275 days left until The 12th All Classes Reunion, starting July 15, 2016.
