REUNION INFORMATION:  www.ccsindians.com

STORES/BUSINESSES:

Sheryl Knapp Egger, Class of 1961
Even today I was thinking of the lime drinks we could get at LeGrys' fountain - haven't found one close all these years I've tried!

Lorri (Andrews)Oberbroeckling class of 1980.
Kings Bakery.  Loved the cheese danish.  Even had my mom and dad send some to me when I was stationed at Ft Richardson, AK

Alesa Wilson  Class of 1981
Well Rubino's Hardware of course! My Grandmother Winnie had everything you needed, and then some! McWhorters Grocery Store, Fedlers Department Store, Bentley's Five and Dime, Kinnens Drug Store.... and the list goes on!

Jim Arnold, Class of 1955 aka Mayor of Bucktown!
How could you live in our little town and not recall the fun we had at Mr. Estramonte's Ice Cream Shoppe or, Sam Standard's Shoppe on Main Street.  Both served ice cream but also a gathering spot for us to get out of the cold or just spend time together as friends.

Sarah Carroll, 1996 (Springfield, Ohio) - I remember going to O'Hearn's and getting Charms lollipops, Feddler's for winter boots and of course, both popcorn wagons.

Frank Smith Class of 76, we live full time in our RV, residents of South Dakota
I bought my first fishing pole and Mitchell reel from Harry Arnold's Sporting Goods on West Main across from Fedler's Shoe Store. Incidentally it was two weeks from the time I ordered it and when Harry was able to go to "the city" (Mechanicville) and pick it up. Long time before Amazon!

Dave Bellemare, Class of 1975, Durham, CT
Stores/Businesses that I remember: Pape's Market (I worked there one summer), Fedler's, Cambridge Lumber, Coila Garage (one of my favorites - Horace & Fred), Log Cabin Restaurant, Oasis, Pete's Shell, Lockrow's Dodge, A&P, McWhorter's, Kinnan's, King's Bakery (!!), Lauderdale Pavilion, The Dairy Bar, I could go on............

I sometimes feel like I lived in Cambridge yesterday, but it has been 45 years. I guess I might spend too much time living in the past, but when it was a special place like Cambridge how can I not go back in time to great memories. The reunion is still a question mark for me. It's another very busy summer.

Betty Jeskie White  Class of 1955  Greenwich, NY
My Dad's work shoes came from Shapiro's store.  My Mom shopped for meat at Hasting's Market and did her grocery shopping at McWhorter's Market.  Some of my clothes came from Mrs. Wetherby's store.  And we all liked the ice cream at Estramonte's.  And of course the dreaded gym outfits at John Henry's.

Jim Arnold, Class of 1955 Pauline, that assignment was quite entertaining. After reading Joel's summary I went back to my paper route list and ran from Cobtown to Bucktown bringing up memories of so many stores.  Maybe if I mention a few then it will jog other memories.

First, one can't forget watching that Pelgas truck stop most afternoons to watch us practice football practice. It was usually Joel, Derings and sometime Mr. McWhorter who would show up and give us encouragement...even if we got beat the previous Saturday!

Stops along the way includes Higgins Hardware Store so Billy could check in with his Dad before we drove to Lauderdale to play basketball.  We all loved riding in that jeep.

Bob Burns Pool /barber shop was a favorite for the older guys, especially watching those guys play the game. Dennis ice cream parlor served as a drop point for my papers but had the nicest display of candy. That is where the term, " look but don't touch" got its first meaning.

Waiting on the bridge near Asgrow Seed for the Washington County Post latest edition was always a great time.  We could ways try to count the fish in the stream under the bridge..

Continue down Main Street and you could always drop in to the library.  No one, except the librarian was usually present but that beat walking around the building on the tiers of stones near each window!

If I continue you'll all know how us kids enjoyed our lives in our town but a word to the wise...you only know the half of the story.!!-

CORRECTION FROM JOEL KETONEN
Dang you print quick - realized Costello's was the Chevy dealer across the street from Pelgas (we never owned a Chevy - not a Pelgas customer but that had nothing to do with our vehicle choices, bed size and size our tanks was issue) and Vitello NOT COSTELLO was Dad and mine's barber

SMALL WORLD:

Ted Pressler From Silver City, NM
Thanks again for all that you do. I am always amazed as to how small our country is. On Sunday at a function held at a property of 50,000 acres (no kidding) out in the burbs, I met a couple who moved to Silver City recently. I introduced myself and asked where they lived previously. To my shock, they are from Saratoga Springs and knew Cambridge quite well and spoke very kindly of the homestead. So now we here have an opportunity to integrate them into our community here.
Best.
Ted

PS You may think 50K is large but Ted Turner has the largest land holding in NM and the USA north of us!! So we can outdo Texas any day!!

AND THEN THERE IS THIS:
Pauline, here is a head scratcher. The Red Front grocery store. Can't give my name because it'll be a giveaway. This is what the store was called though it had another name. Also where was it located?

Major Greg Woodcock , Class of 1981  St Patrick's KofC Blood Drive Chairman

Next American Red Cross Blood Drive is 22 July 2017/Saturday from 8AM to 1PM.  Give a pint and save a life.  Who knows----it maybe your life!!!  My famous Italian meatballs, along with fruit and veggie platters, plus some other homemade food items besides the items the Red Cross provide!

Need to register to vote--sign up with the Cambridge Blood Drive Chairman for the St Patrick's Knights of Columbus Below!
