NOVEMBER 24, 2015

Dear CCS Alumni and Friends, I hope this finds you well and ready to sit down to a Thanksgiving feast on Thursday.  When I think of how the Lord has blessed me, the CCS Alumni often comes to mind. I am so grateful for all the love and support shown me through the almost 12 years I have been doing this website and newsletter.  I appreciate all the kind emails and messages I receive and those who take the time to send in something for the newsletter.  I know all of us enjoy reading what is going on with fellow CCSers.

Kathy Kelleher, CCS class of 1980
Recently I had the opportunity to sit and chat with Mr. Dawson, CCS former art teacher in the 1950's, 60's and 70's.  He retired in 1977.  He will be 96 on November 30, 2015 and I thought some of his former students might want to send him a card with a note enclosed.  He is in good health and is the total caretaker of his wife, Lorraine, who had a stroke nearly two years ago.  He said that the hardest part is the monotony of caring for her because every day is the same and since Lorraine has lost her memory he needs to repeat answers to her questions dozens of times each day.  They live alone in Shushan and since she is not mobile, Mr. Dawson must stay at home with her unless someone stops by to visit with Lorraine so he can go to church or go to the store.  He cooks all their meals (he treated me to one of his homemade oatmeal raisin cookies- it was yummy) and does the all the housekeeping!  Their daughter will be visiting from Texas from Nov. 28th - Dec. 10th and they do have other family members in the area.  However, I thought that if any local alum has the time, I'm sure Mr. Dawson would appreciate a visit.  He's still an accomplished piano player and I believe he still paints, although I did not ask.  As I mentioned, notes with tidbits of your life or photos or doodles or anything would probably be most appreciated.  I see so many wonderful posts on this website, if this reaches one of the students that was inspired to do something further in art, I know he would be sincerely touched to hear about it.    His phone number is #518-854-3261 and his address is: Mr. Richard Dawson, Newman Road Ext., Shushan, NY 12873

Thank you and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Jennifer  (Morris) Anderson.. Class of 85...
Happy Thanksgiving to all my Family and Friends still in Cambridge. My family and I live in Ramstein Germany supporting the US Army. Winter is upon us here but we have been blessed with a beautiful long weirdly sunny Fall. It looks as if our time here is coming to an end but what an adventure this has been for us! Take care all. Tschuss (Bye)

Fall in Cambridge also included the opening of hunting and trapping seasons.  I can still remember how proud I was when I passed my Hunter Safety Course, in a house on South Union Street, at the age of 14.  It was on a beautiful Saturday in late September or early October when the leaves were changing, the smell of fall was in the air and the sky was a deep, dark blue. From that point on, I couldn’t wait to get off the school bus and go pheasant hunting or run my muskrat trapline on my bicycle.  I would be remiss if I did not mention that my interest in hunting and trapping was largely due to the support and encouragement of Rupert Jennings, a custodian at the time, whom I admired and who was an inspiration to me.  I wanted to be a hunter and trapper just like him which ultimately led to a life-long career as a wildlife manager with the NYS Department of Environmental Conversation’s Division of Fish, Wildlife and Marine Resources.   Over the years, Rupert and I have had our differences about how to manage deer and pheasants in Washington County but I remember reading in a CCS Newsletter that a tradition in the Jennings family is deer hunting on Thanksgiving Day.  Well, Rupert, I want you to know that your love for hunting, and tradition, has been passed on to yet another generation, my older daughter Rebecca who is an avid deer hunter in her own right.  The attached picture, which is also on page 33 of this year’s NYS Hunting Syllabus, is of her the day before Thanksgiving last year. (NOTE: The picture is on Page 5 of Seasons: Fall on the website)  And, if tradition holds true, she (and hopefully yourself) will be out again this year, on Thanksgiving, or the day before, for what we hope will be another successful year that began so many years ago with your support and encouragement of me, for which I will be forever thankful.

I received word about Alex DeVito, Class of 1956 from his daughter Joyce.

She said Alex loves stories & cards from people he knows so she just wanted to let everyone  know your thoughtfulness is appreciated.  She reads the newsletter to him which he enjoys.  She is sorry Al can't put his thoughts on paper anymore.
Alex’s Address:  15 Dartmouth Drive, Delran, NJ  08075
